Stroke
Stroke
A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted, causing potential brain damage. The severity depends on how long the blood flow is blocked and how much brain tissue is affected. Early treatment to restore blood flow greatly improves outcomes and reduces the risk of disability. Strokes are now classified based on type, location, and cause. Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) is a temporary neurological deficit that resolves without permanent damage. Ischemic Stroke, the most common type, occurs when a blood clot blocks a brain artery, reducing blood flow and causing tissue injury. Early treatment with clot-busting medications or mechanical clot removal can restore circulation. Hemorrhagic Stroke results from a ruptured blood vessel or aneurysm, causing bleeding in or around the brain. Treatment includes medical management of blood pressure, careful neuroimaging, and neurosurgical or neurointerventional procedures to relieve pressure and prevent further brain injury.
